Our Unique, Proven Approach

FiCycle’s research-backed curriculum mutually enhances students’ knowledge of essential financial concepts along with the core math skills required to use those concepts successfully. In contrast to the typical method of embedding financial topics in a math class, we instead outlined the most crucial personal finance issues. This allows the underlying math to organically fall out of those topics. From the very first introduction of a finance concept students work through the mathematics. In doing so, they gather a more complete understanding and are ready to make their financial decisions.

3 Reasons to bring FiCycle to your school today:

  • It’s interest-bearing for students and educators alike ― Both teachers and learners report that our real-world relevant course increases their interest and engagement in math content. Students not only gain necessary skills, but they learn to love math.
  • You can take it to the bank (without breaking the bank) ― Research demonstrates that integration between rigorous math instruction and education on financial concepts increases long-lasting knowledge in both domains. Adding to the value, your school can get started today with our full year-long course for free, with only a low cost for additional years of implementation.
  • You’ll make an investment in the future ― Students gain invaluable knowledge of personal finance along with the math skills to use that knowledge effectively, setting them up for success in understanding and managing their financial life cycle.

How you can incorporate the FiCycle Math course into your school’s math sequence.

The course can be used in a variety of different ways depending on your school’s math sequence. In general, our schools use it as a math class for juniors or seniors, though it may fit in differently at each school. Here are a few ways we have seen it being used:

  • year-long course for juniors and seniors who have completed Algebra and some Advanced Algebra who need an additional math course
  • year-long course for students who have only completed basic Algebra and they will learn Algebra II as they work through our course
  • half-year course made up of approximately three FiCycle units combined with trigonometry or other math class for the other half year
  • elective course for students who have completed Algebra II/Pre-Calculus and choose to take the class out of personal interest

Here are some of the ways our course has been used in math sequences.

  Freshman Sophomore Junior Senior

Sequence 2 Algebra 1 Geometry Algebra 2/ Trig FiCycle

Implementing FiCycle Math

The FiCycle curriculum is provided to schools via Dropbox for free for the first year. After that, schools pay a low annual adoption fee on a sliding scale, based on the number of teachers and students using the course. It is part of our mission to ensure that no student is denied access to the materials because of cost, so please let us know how we can work with you.

Two professional development sessions, ongoing email and telephone support during normal business hours, and a pre- and post-course student performance report are all included with your implementation. To learn more about the terms, download our adoption agreement.
